Mt Rodgers Primary School Adventure Trail

Scope

To create an adventure trail that provides a space for the students to run, ride and walk that is also an attractive addition to the landscape whilst providing a functional natural play space for the children.  The primary objective of the facility is to be able to facilitate bike skills training carried out in the school by qualified teachers.

Challenges

  • Creating a space that all students can enjoy on a small budget.
  • Working around protected trees
  • Sensitively incorporating existing trees into the design
  • Working in the space whilst school in in its open hours
  • Designing a space that is inclusive and complimentary to the existing space

Solutions

  • Makin Trax director Darren Stewart undertook to run 6 sessions with the students to educate them on the process behind building the adventure trail. Areas covered were, safety, compliance with the land managers, schools and education departments requirements, working with regulated trees, track design, construction methodologies and a site visit to Stromlo Forest Park
  • Each student came up with a design based on the 6 session and a final design was completed
  • In an effort to keep costs down the parents and friends group were to complete the landscaping via planting trees and other vegetation.
  • Makin Trax overlayed a design based on professional experience and added some nature play elements to the track that would make it more inclusive for the students of the school

Outcomes

Unfortunately funding has been re allocated but it is the sincere hope that funding will be found to complete this exciting project that is ready to commence.
