Makin Trax Australia Pty Ltd is a Canberra-based company which commenced in 2005.
Since its inception, Makin Trax has been involved in some of the most high profile mountain bike and walking track projects in Australia including the Stromlo Forest Park recreational facility, the Canberra Centenary Trail and trails in the National Arboretum Canberra.
The Makin Trax team has over 20 years combined track building experience. With hundreds of kilometres of delivered tracks, we stand alone in our technical and operational capacity to deliver world-class outcomes in all natural environments.
Our in-house team consists of highly-skilled and qualified tradesmen, licensed builders and machine operators. The team is available full-time and has specialised training and skills in track design, construction and maintenance.

Nick is a Landscape Designer and Landscaper, with 20 years’ experience in residential and commercial landscaping. Nick is a former owner/operator of Latitude Landscape Design and Construction and in this capacity has designed and constructed many high end projects, including many for Harris Hobbs Landscape Architects. Nick commenced with Makin Trax in July 2015.
Michael joined the Makin Trax team in 2012 and is an Arborist, with a Diploma in Landscape Design and Installation from Kwantlen Polytechnique in British Columbia. He brings 14 years specialised experience in the landscaping industry to Makin Trax, being skilled in in paving, irrigation, horticulture, design and construction. Michael is a skilled excavator and skid steer loader operator and has worked with the team on walking tracks in Tidbinbilla and mountain bike tracks at Stromlo Forest Park.
Dean commenced with Makin Trax in 2012. He is a skilled plant operator on numerous types of earth moving equipment, having gained these skills over many years in the Australian Defence Force. He is an avid mountain biker and like Darren, built trails on a voluntary basis before joining Makin Trax.
Ben is a qualified fitter and machinist, and bike mechanic. He is a local, national and international mountain bike identity. Ben is the 2001 Junior downhill mountain bike World Champion and on 5 occasions has been selected in the Elite World Championships Australian Team. Ben is one of the top riders in Australia and is currently sponsored by Giant. Added to his riding abilities is his profound knowledge and expertise in trail design and construction with a special knowledge of DH, dirt jumps and pump tracks.
Matthew is a licensed plumber of 20 years with extensive experience in track building and remediation. He holds an excavator operator license, chainsaw accreditation for felling, trim and crosscut and is the Makin Trax first aid officer holding a Senior Certificate 3 in first aid.
Heather is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years experience in financial management, government consulting and auditing prior to the commencement of Makin Trax. She manages the Finance and Office Administration function.
Makin Trax is headed by Darren Stewart. Apart from being one of the most experienced track builders in the country, Darren has 20 years experience operating various businesses, is a licensed builder and machine operator, and an accredited chainsaw operator and trained with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA). Darren brings high quality skills and methodologies to this specialised industry.
