Heli-lifting stranded bridges to safety
17 Dec 2012
Once again Makin Trax was selected to undertake the highly specialised work of heli-craning in remote areas. Two bridges that were washed away in the floods of the previous year were to be lifted out of their resting place in the river bed and relocated. One was to be placed on new foundations a little up stream, among some giant granite boulders. The other was relocated up near the ranger station.
This is highly expensive, specialised and and potentially hazardous work. Days of preparation went into this 20min job. Because of meticulous planning and the highest level of proficiency from all involved everything went according to plan. Special thanks to the guys at United Aero in particular Matt Obrien and John McRae Senior Ranger at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
