Makin Trax Australia Pty Ltd is a Canberra-based company which commenced in 2005.
Since its inception, Makin Trax has been involved in some of the most high profile mountain bike and walking track projects in Australia including the Stromlo Forest Park recreational facility, the Canberra Centenary Trail and trails in the National Arboretum Canberra.
The Makin Trax team has over 30 years combined track building experience. With hundreds of kilometres of delivered tracks, we stand alone in our technical and operational capacity to deliver world-class outcomes in all natural environments.
Our in-house team consists of highly-skilled and qualified tradesmen, licensed builders and machine operators. The team is available full-time and has specialised training and skills in track design, construction and maintenance.

TEAM
Darren Stewart, Director
Makin Trax is headed by Darren Stewart. Apart from being one of the most experienced track builders in the country, Darren has 25 years experience operating various businesses, is a licensed builder and machine operator, and an accredited chainsaw operator and trained with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA). Darren brings high quality skills and methodologies to this specialised industry.
Dean Hubbard, Supervisor
Dean is an experienced trail builder, having been part of the Makin Trax team since 2012, with a hiatus to move away from Canberra in 2016, returning in 2019. He has worked on many of our high profile projects including Stromlo Forest Park, the Gibraltar Peak Trail and the Canberra Centenary Trail. Dean is a also skilled a plant operator, gaining these skills over many years, including his time in the Australian Defence Force.
Jason Brooks, Trail Builder
Jason commenced with Makin trax in 2017 and has gained trail building and machinery operation experience working on projects at Stromlo Forest Park, the National Arboretum Canberra, Ridgeline Park Denman Prospect and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.
Evan Brooks, Trail Builder
Evan has been part of the Makin Trax team since 2016. He has a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Management) and was a Park Ranger/Supervisor for the Warringah Council at Manly Dam War Memorial Reserve. He is a skilled plant operator and has extensive landscaping and trail building experience, working at Stromlo Forest Park, the Canberra Centenary Trail and Ridgeline Park Denman Prospect.
Chris Short, Trail Builder
Chris is a long standing member of the Makin Trax team. He has worked on many track design and construction projects including Gibraltar Peak Trail, Kelly’s Swamp Board Walk and Casuarina Walking Trail and is qualified carpenter and licensed machinery operator.
Matthew Spackman, Trail Builder
Matthew is an experienced trail builder and has been part of the Makin Trax team for many years, having worked extensively at Stromlo Forest Park. He is a licensed plumber of 25 years and holds an excavator operator license and chainsaw accreditation for felling, trim and crosscut.
Heather Stewart, Finance & Compliance
Heather is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years experience in financial management, government consulting and auditing prior to the commencement of Makin Trax. She manages the Finance and Compliance function.
